My Little Artist

I really love the fact that Angela is three. This is honestly such a fun age! One thing I really enjoy is how much her drawing ability has changed just over the past few months. She really enjoys drawing portraits. She currently has two nearly life-sized drawings hanging in our gallery (read: hallway), and I think she's really captured the essence of her dad and sister...

Just a Girl

This was the conversation Angela had on her pretend phone the other day - I just love listening in to her monologues when she's playing!

"Hello? Oh, hi friend!.... what, you have a fire in your house?.... I don't know. I'm just a little girl. You should call a fireman..... yes, because I only have one purse, and a fireman has five purses.... okay, bye."

September 12 of 12

8:55am
Today at Angie's preschool, it's bring your teddy bear to school day. Angela, of course, chose her most prized stuffed animal, "Goiy-goiy" (rhymes with "boy-boy"). It may look like this photo was taken in our back yard, but it's actually in front of her school. (My Mary statue is much bigger, thank you very much!)

9:05am
Here's Angela with one of her teachers, Miss Lulu. Goiy-goiy obviously thinks it's nap time already.

9:30am
Back at the house, Katie and I have some quality time together. Lately, she's become interested in her Teletubbies doll, Lala. It's heartwarming to see her face light up when she sees Lala, and how she gives her doll a "big hug" and drooly kisses. Of course, after 5 minutes of this, mom gets a little jealous and has to remind Katie that Lala wasn't the one who carried her for 9 months, went through hours of labor, etc.

11:55am
Katie and I head back over to Angela's school for the "Teddy Bear Picnic" in the cafeteria. Here's Angela with her teddy bear ears on, standing next to her friend Ava.

1:55pm
Katie finally fell asleep - 40 mintues before we had to go back to pick Angela up. So, here she is catching a few more Z's in the car.

2:30 - 4:00pm
For a week now, Katie has been showing all the signs of a teething baby. However, my mommy anxieties got the best of me and I finally took her to the doctor to make sure she didn't have an ear infection. After waiting over an hour and a half with two clingy, tired kids, everything checked out okay. Plus, we ended up with a Blue's Clues sticker from the nurse - score! I guess it was worth the excruciating, life-draining wait after all!
7:24pm
Time for our evening walk after dinner. We decided to go to the park around the corner and feed the ducks. Of course, those feathered friends would have nothing to do with us, so we fed the turtles and fish instead.
8:13pm
Bathtime! And yes, those are goggles Houston is putting on Angela. If you have to ask why, then you really don't want to know.

I'm tempted to return this child - this one has a crack...

My little baby has taken yet another big step this week - she no longer requires a seat in the tub. Of course, a steady hand from mom or dad is required to avoid being knocked over by The S.S. Angela.

Childhood memories....

Looking back, I can remember days as a kid when I was bored. It didn't happen very often, but there were days when I would whine to my mom about how I didn't have anything to do.

It amazes me that my mom didn't smack me, right then and there.

Fortunately, my mom is a wonderful, loving and creative mom (who put up with our crap), and I remember her going through a list of things I could do to save me from my boredom.

Fast forward 20 or so years, and even I want to slap myself. Bored?!? Are you kidding me? What I wouldn't give for a few hours of "nothing" to do - no cleaning, no cooking, no errands to run, etc. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love my busy life.... but I vaguely recall those days, before we had kids, where we would sleep in until 11am each Saturday, have a leisurely lunch out, watch nothing in particular on TV... basically do nothing all day.

So, that is where the title of my blog comes from. In particular, it's a line from one of the funniest comedies out there: "Office Space." ("It's not just about me and my dream of doing nothing...")

I'm sure one day when the kids hit puberty and won't talk to us we'll have days when there's nothing to do once again.. but until then, I'm soaking up each and every busy, hectic day and, thru this bog, trying to record some of our daily happenings. Who knows - perhaps in 25 years, Houston and I will relive these moments that people tell us "go by so quickly" by reading these journals... hopefully, we'll do so after sleeping in until noon and watching 3 hours of television!
